The Dutch government recently voted in favor of new legislation that will significantly impact the world of research chemicals (RCs). Set to take effect on July 1, 2025, this new law introduces a ban on certain substance groups commonly used in new psychoactive substances (NPS) or research chemicals. Many chemicals that are currently legally sold will soon be prohibited for sale or possession. This change was discussed in the Dutch Parliament in late December 2024, marking a major shift in the country’s approach to RCs.
Key Points of the New RC Legislation
The law bans several chemical groups, including:
- Phenethylamines (including cathinones) such as MDPHP, 2-MMC, NEP, 2-CMC, and others.
- Synthetic cannabinoids
- Fentanyl-like substances
These substances will be placed on a new third list of prohibited chemical groups starting 1st of July 2025, which will impact availability, research, and development in the sector.
What This Means for You
It is crucial to prepare for the upcoming ban. Research chemicals will be available for purchase on our website until the law takes effect. It’s recommended to check the list of banned substances and subscribe to newsletters for updates. The ban will prohibit the sale of many popular RCs, and new stock will not be replenished once these substances are banned.
Timeline and Updates
- 28th of January 2025, the Dutch Senate approved the ban on research chemicals, which will include entire chemical groups, making substances illegal regardless of their exact composition.
- 1st of July 2025 the new law introduces a ban on certain substance groups.
